Forklift prices can vary by thousands of dollars even when the machines look similar. Capacity, power type, model, mast setup and added equipment can all affect the price. The number on the page is only part of the picture. To compare prices properly, you need to know what each forklift includes and what you actually need for the job.
The difference between a forklift listed at $35,000 and one listed at $60,000 can seem huge. But are you comparing similar machines?
We currently have Tailift forklifts listed at different prices, from smaller 3,500-pound models to larger 12,000-pound trucks. The price changes with the equipment. That makes the question how much does a forklift cost in Houston harder to answer with one number. The better question is what is driving the price.
Capacity is one reason the price changes
A forklift built to handle 11,000 pounds is going to be different from one built for 3,500 pounds. We currently list the 3,500-pound Tailift PFG18 at $34,441 and the 11,000-pound Tailift PFD50 at $62,193.75. Those aren't two versions of the same truck. They're built around different load requirements.
That's a price difference of more than $27,000. The important part isn't the gap itself. It's what you're getting for it. If your work calls for a smaller forklift, buying a much larger truck may not make sense. If you're regularly handling heavier loads, the cheaper machine may not meet the job requirements. Capacity is only one piece of the price.
Power type can affect the price
We currently have both LPG and diesel Tailift forklifts in several capacity ranges. The prices aren't identical, even when the capacities are close. For example, we list the 10,000-pound PFD45 diesel at $60,187.50 and the 10,000-pound PFG45 LPG model at $61,124. The 11,000-pound PFD50 is listed at $62,193.75, while the 11,000-pound PFG50 is $61,793.
So there's no simple rule that says diesel costs more or LPG costs less. The equipment has to be looked at as a whole. And prices can change, so these numbers are best treated as current examples rather than a permanent price list.
The model and configuration matter
Two forklifts can have the same general capacity and still have different prices. We currently list several 5,000-pound Tailift models at different prices. The PFD25 Z Series is listed at $37,316.25, while the semi-rough-terrain PFD25 is listed at $38,252.50. We also list the LPG PFG25 Cushion Z Series at $34,106.
That's why the model number matters. Look at the actual truck you're comparing. A small difference in price may come from the equipment, configuration, or intended use rather than simply the brand.
The equipment you add can change the number
The forklift you need may not be the basic version. You might need a different mast, attachment or other equipment for the work you're doing. Those choices can affect the final price. That's something we want to know before we put together a quote.
Tell us what you're lifting and how you'll use the forklift. Then we can look at the equipment that makes sense for that job instead of starting with a price and trying to work backward. This also keeps price comparisons cleaner. If one quote includes equipment that another doesn't, the two numbers aren't really showing the same thing.
The listed price isn't always the final number
There can be costs outside the advertised equipment price. Our product pages state that advertised prices exclude applicable taxes, title, and licensing. Added parts, accessories, or installation may also be separate unless they are specifically included.
So if you're comparing two forklifts, ask what each price includes. That's a simple step, but it can save you from comparing two numbers that don't cover the same purchase.
So, how much does a forklift cost in Houston?
There isn't one price that applies to every forklift. Right now, we have new Tailift forklifts listed at $34,441 for a 3,500-pound PFG18, while a 12,000-pound PFD55 is listed at $67,677.50. We also have several models priced between those two points.
So when someone asks us “How much does a forklift cost in Houston?”, we need a little more information.
- What are you lifting?
- What's the heaviest load?
- How high do you need to lift it?
- What type of forklift are you looking for?
Those answers give us a much better starting point than a budget number by itself. At American Lift & Equipment, Inc., we can review the equipment that fits your needs, give you a quote, and arrange a demo when appropriate.
Compare the equipment behind the price
A lower price is easy to notice. It doesn't tell you whether the forklift has the capacity, configuration, or equipment you need. When you're asking “How much does a forklift cost in Houston?”, start with the machine you actually need. Then compare the prices.
